Eighty Strand is one of London’s great art deco buildings. Designed in the early 1930s by Messrs Joseph as Shell-Mex House, its clock tower still faces the Thames, and until 2020 it served as an oil company headquarters. The listed building has since been reworked by PDP London into flexible workspace, with interiors by Carter Owers.
Studio Thirty Three supplied the furniture, art and accessories throughout this private ground-floor suite, working in collaboration with our client and taking every cue from the building itself: strong geometry, rich browns, bold accent colours and the deco motifs that run through its original fabric.
For the vast open-plan communal areas we commissioned large-scale artworks, scaled to rooms where anything smaller would simply disappear.
The result is statement furniture set against riveted steel columns and restored stone, chosen so that everything we brought in reads as part of the building rather than placed inside it.
