Down the narrow run of Marylebone Mews, behind 32 Welbeck Street, sits one of London’s quieter surprises. A stable here was turned into a chapel in 1813, later rebuilt as the Russian Orthodox chapel to the embassy, drawing worshippers from across society, Russian royalty among them. It closed in 1922 and has since been carefully restored.
Painted deep green, ringed with arches and crowned by a gilded dome, the Grade II listed room now works as an event space, part of the same Marylebone collection as our Elm Tree project.
Studio Thirty Three supplied the furniture throughout: functional, flexible and light enough to move between layouts. Theatre rows one morning, workshop tables the next, canapés by the evening.
Orange and oxblood seating picks up the colours overhead, and everything else stays quiet, because in a room like this the building should do the talking.
