A POT OF VOLCANIC ROCK THAT SMELLS OF THE FOREST FLOOR AFTER RAIN.
MAD et LEN’s Pot Pourri Apothicaire in Terre Noire. Volcanic lava rock steeped in perfume, set in a blackened, hand-hammered iron pot with a lid, and a 15 ml dropper bottle of the same scent for topping up.
Sandra Fuzier and Alexandre Piffaut left Paris desk jobs in 2007 and set up the house in a small village in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, not far from Grasse. They work by hand in small batches and treat the dents and seams in the ironwork as proof rather than flaw. Terre Noire is their study of dark earth: humus, bark, cedar, mushroom and petrified wood.
No flame, no plug. A few drops every so often, and a room that smells faintly expensive.
