BENTWOOD GONE DANISH, ON A SWIVEL.
Fritz Hansen’s DAN swivel chair, designed in Copenhagen in the 1930s. Backrest, seat, column and four-footed base are all beech, and the seat height changes as you turn it.
Fritz Hansen’s own history lists a DAN chair by Søren Hansen in 1932, and dealers usually credit this swivel version to Magnus Stephensen.
Plain, upright and quietly clever. It has outlasted every gas-lift chair made since.
