THE OFFICE CHAIR FROM BEFORE OFFICE CHAIRS GOT UGLY.
Fritz Hansen’s DAN swivel chair, a Copenhagen design of the 1930s, here in its version with arms. Steam-bent beech from the curled armrests down to the four-footed base, and the seat rises or falls as you turn it.
DAN was the name Fritz Hansen gave its bentwood chairs of the early 1930s. The company’s own history credits the 1932 DAN chair to Søren Hansen, and dealers usually attribute this swivel version to the architect Magnus Stephensen.
Made for a desk and a long working day. The arms are worth it on their own.
