Black Sculptural Vase

A tall-necked stoneware vase, shaped by hand and finished in a satin black glaze. Around its full body, openings have been carved straight through the clay, so light passes in and out and the form reads as much as a sculpture as a vessel.

It is made by MAKU Ceramic in Istanbul. Because each piece is formed individually, the size and placing of the openings, the line of the neck and the surface of the glaze vary slightly from one vase to the next.

Stand it alone on a plinth or a shelf, or let a single branch rise from the neck.
